Combining expert knowledge of floating offshore wind (FLOW) with state-of-the-art testing facilities, the University collaborated with industry leaders to research issues and potential solutions around port movements, deployment, operations, maintenance and survivability of floating offshore wind platforms. 
Our support included:  
  • access to our world-class facilities , researchers and technicians for businesses to develop new approaches in Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW)
  • numerical analysis, physical modelling and virtual simulation of FLOW devices, operations and enabling technologies
  • access to wider University capability including materials characterisation, and remote and autonomous vehicles
  • industry-focused events and opportunities for FLOW businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The COAST laboratory provides a physical model testing with combined waves, currents and wind, offered at scales appropriate for device testing, array testing, environmental modelling and coastal engineering.

The EPSRC-funded UK Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Test facility is a first-of-its-kind facility within the UK that enables physical modelling experiments with wind, wave and currents simultaneously.
