ҹèƵ Contemporary 2015

The inaugural bi-annual exhibition showcasing new and emerging talent

Over 1,200 submissions were received for the ҹèƵ Contemporary in 2015 from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe and beyond and were displayed in the Peninsula Arts Gallery between 11 July-29 August 2015. They were reviewed by the following highly-respected panel comprising:

Helen Legg, Director, Spike Island, Bristol; Sam Thorne, Artistic Director, Tate St Ives; Judith Robinson, Partnerships Officer, ҹèƵ City Council; Dr Sarah Chapman, Director, Peninsula Arts; Chris Cook, Associate Professor (Reader) in Painting, School of Art and Media, ҹèƵ University and Professor Alan Schechner, Head of School of Art and Media, ҹèƵ University.

The 25 artists selected worked in a variety of mediums; digital, sculpture, textile, paint, installation and drawing.

“It is truly amazing that the people who visited the ҹèƵ Contemporary took the time to vote for me. When you spend so long on a body of work in isolation, you forget it may be a novelty or a pleasure to someone else, and to have it received in such a way is remarkable. The entire exhibition was a great collection of international works that also showcased not only what the South West has to offer contemporary art, but also what contemporary art has to offer the South West.”
