Green Starts Here – sustainable campus dining in 2025

2024 was a remarkable year for the Catering team, and we’re incredibly proud of our achievements! Not only have we renewed our 3-star rating with the , but we’ve also earned as a university, receiving 2 out of 3 stars.
We’re committed to continuing our sustainable practices across campus, offering students eco-friendly food and beverage options all year round.

Sustainable food options on campus

Be even greener by choosing from our sustainable menu items! Whether ordering a Fairtrade organic coffee, opting for one of our vegan options, or indulging in a vegetarian meal, we’ve got you covered. Daily vegan specials are available at Drake’s Kitchen, John Bull Cafe and RLB Cafe. Loafers Deli serves great sandwich options, while The Container and other campus cafes offer tasty treats. Don’t miss out on Reservoir Cafe, our vegetarian and vegan cafe offering healthy and delicious meals!

The Great Sandwich Showdown

The winner of the Great Sandwich Showdown is The Italian Job (sundried tomatoes, mozzarella, pesto, rocket and balsamic glaze)! This is our Sandwich of the Week at Loafers Deli, available for just £3.75 for students.

National Picnic Month
July is the perfect time to enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed!) with a picnic on campus. Pick up a Picnic Bag from The Container, which includes your choice of sandwich and three handmade snacks – from classic Devon homity pies to artisan sausage rolls and freshly baked scones.
Prefer to build your own picnic? All of our food is available for take away! Try:
• Fish and chips from Drake’s Kitchen
• Wraps and salads from Reservoir Cafe
• Fresh sandwiches from Loafers Deli.
National Ice Cream Month
Cool down with local ice cream from Yarde Farm, available at Reservoir Cafe. It's made just eight miles from campus – now that’s a sweet local treat!
Plastic Free July
Join us in reducing plastic waste on campus:
• Bring your own cup and save 20p
• Dine in and use our reusable crockery
• All takeaway items come in plant-based packaging
• Try our no-lid cups from The Container
• Choose cans, glass bottles and reusable water bottles.
Did you know? Six of our cafes use milk pergals, saving up to 14 plastic bottles per container!
National Eat Beans Day – Thursday 3 July
Celebrate with some hearty, wholesome food:
• Enjoy a cooked breakfast with beans from The Toast Office, Drake’s Kitchen or John Bull Cafe
• Add beans and cheese to your jacket potato or chips across our main cafes.
World Chocolate Day – Monday 7 July
Indulge in ethically sourced chocolate:
• Try our famous chocolate brownies at The Container
• Pick up a Fairtrade Divine chocolate bar from selected cafes and support cocoa farmers through the Cocoa Horizons programme.
National Mac and Cheese Day – Monday 14 July

National Lasagne Day – Tuesday 29 July
Visit Reservoir Cafe for a delicious vegetarian lasagne, served fresh and perfect for a hearty summer meal.
